Senkadagalapura's past Kandy's first Dalada Palace was constructed in. The first ruler was King Wimaladharmasuriya, who ruled from 1592 until 1604. History claims that Portuguese invaders destroyed his Dalada Palace. After then, on the same spot as the first Tooth Palace, King Rajasingha II (1635–1687) built the Second Tooth Palace in Kandy.



The Dutch later set it on fire and destroyed it. Next  The history of Dalada states that during his reign in 1687, King Wimaladharmasuriya II erected a three-story Dalada Mandir, where he enshrined Dalada and carried out a number of rites. The current two-story Dalada Maliga was constructed by his son Sri Veera Parakrama Narendrasingha King (1707–1739 AD) because the Dalada Mandura was destroyed by deterioration. Subsequently, the Sri Dalada Palace constructed by King Narendrasingha was restored and safeguarded by the Dravida monarchs of the Nayakkar dynasty, who later became Senkadagala. This Dalada Maliga has been fully restored to its current state by King Keerthi Sri Rajasingha. During his reign over Kandy from 1798 to 1815, King Sri Vikrama Rajasingha constructed the octagonal structure known as Patthirippuwa.
